I thought it resembled a coffee plant, although that's more tree-like. The lobelia we get grows much smaller, but Greenie oughta know, because he's the pro. Love the pics of your little mud-boy!
I'm chucking out the lobelia guess now. The leaves are too pointed and the stemming off the leaf too long. IT's more in line with Black Eyed Susan, but there again, not dark green enough to me.

Hmmmm...It looks a little bit like a lobelia, but that's not for sure. It could be chinese lantern too. Maybe let it grow a little more.
