Cabinets

Meeting Number One was with the cabinet dude.  The kitchen layout is, interestingly, EXACTLY like my mom's kitchen.  This pleases her to no end since she designed her own kitchen.  My kitchen is a little shorter and a little narrower and my island is a bit bigger and I have a pantry.... other than that.... same.

I narrowed it to four choices.  I want to-the-ceiling cabinets if we can afford it.

1. mastercraft san pedro alder cabinet doors  What finish?
2. aristokraft avalon maple doors What finish?
3. aristokraft winstead maple doors What finish?
4. aristokraft hickory pioneer doors What finish?

When I started I thought I was going to get something like this: http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&rlz=1T4ADFA_enUS342US343&q=fairmont+designs+117-V72&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=6465527649544358314&ei=TUrHS_iBBZL8NdbnzOEI&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=3&ved=0CBQQ8wIwAg#ps-sellers

It was all dark colors, mission/craftsman type styles. Then we compromised because of cost and usability. I went for functionality … I wanted more cabinets so I got the cheaper finishes. I wanted it light and bright in the kitchen, so we went natural

All four of your choices are nice, but I like 1 & 4 best. But what colors are you thinking of for the rest of the room? And what color/type countertops?
1. mastercraft san pedro alder cabinet doors What finish? Natural, ginger or chestnut (I like the chocolate accents too for the chestnut stain.)
2. aristokraft avalon maple doors What finish?
3. aristokraft winstead maple doors What finish?
4. aristokraft hickory pioneer doors What finish? I like the wheat in this one

We are thinking the same again.... I like 1 & 4.... although when I started I thought I wanted #3.

I have no idea for countertops.... they will be laminate with a wood edge but I don't know what color.

The kitchen will be green for the main color (probably Sag Harbor Grey by Ben Moore... that is what my kitchen is now and I like it.) Slate blue, chocolate brown for something dark and something anchoring. White or cream or buttery yellow for a creamy color to make it pop. Then accented with turquoise, pink or red.... depending on the season and my mood.... All the "accents" are simple things... dish towels, vases, teapot.... that kind of simple thing. It sounds hideous but it will work... I promise. IF I get the right countertops....

Next decision: Go for to-the-ceiling cabinets or leave a space on top??
