The Pink Tub

Oh holy shit.

Remember when I said I was afraid I might be a hoarder.

Check out the episode of "Linda and Todd" on Hoarders this week.

See that pink tub on top of Linda's piles??

I HAVE THAT PINK TUB.

It is one of those hospital tubs. In our house it is the "soaka foot" and "frow-up" tub. It lives on the top shelf of the laundry room cupboard... but during the last 6 weeks it has been out and about next to various beds in that game of throw-up roulette. I actually just put it away (again) this weekend.

We had one of those tubs too. Left over from 25 yrs ago when darling daughter was born. It's been a soaking tub, a dye tub, a re-potting plants tub, and now it's moved out of the house into the garage and has shards of glass leftover from stained glass projects. (It was also a "frow-up" tub at our house in one incarnation.)

Anti-hoarding is part of one of my resolutions. Each week something else leaves the old house. Goodwill, Garbage, gone to friends acquaintances, or sneakily to family. This week I got rid of an unopened bottle of contact solution, a handful of hotel soaps, a couple of plastic disposable razors, the Tom's toothpaste hubby disliked, and the ginger deodorant that didn't do it for me - I gave them to daughter who mentioned she's forgotten what it's like to have money left for anything but necessities. More clothes, household items, and junk that I won't have to move! (Even if that move is just 60 feet away.)

One of my co-workers did it last year. At the end of 52 weeks, she said it was hard to find something to get rid of. My other co-worker started it this year too. She says it lightens you up and gets easier with each box.

I'm also trying not to buy anything but dairy, fresh fruit/veggies -- and use up the food in the pantry and freezer(s).

Christal-

You need to start a blog. I'm on the same rampage.... November & December it was eat or give to Food Share all the canned food and only buy what we like. I'm down to a random can of pumpkin, a few odd boxes of hamburger helper and a variety of tuna pouches in "clever" flavors that I thought would be good on salads.

This fall we did the travel-size dump.... the ENTIRE family brings their hotel soaps/shampoos (keep in mind my sister works at a hotel) and all random stray shampoos etc.... we swap (for example I took the conditioner that makes my mom's hair frizzy but works great on mine) and then take what no one wants but is still good down to God's Love.

Have you started the "odd meals contest" yet? Every time we move the goal is to not move any food... by the end we are eating random meals of condiments and crackers....

Wow, me too! I think it's the Hoarders show that does it to me! Right now I have 2 bags ready for the thrift store...and have been unloading baby stuff at a regular pace as Gus outgrows it. The Great Toy Purge of Winter 2010 will be happening soon, followed by the Great Kitchen Cabinet Clean-Out. Not really looking forward to that one, but do we really need 3 junk drawers, even if they are sorted by junk (pens, pencils, hair clips, etc. in one, tape, rulers, scissors, paper clips in another, hubby's junk in a 3rd, batteries in a 4th...good lord)
I like the idea to get rid of something once a week. The trick is not to bring anything back in!

Oh...and I WILL finish painting the bedroom (autumn sunrise) and do the touch-up on the dining room wall. Can we start a painting support group please???!!!
